Prof. Tim Claridge

Tim has served on the committee of the UK Royal Society of Chemistry NMR Discussion Group (1998-2009), serving as chairman for three years (2006-2009). In 2012 he co-founded the UK Magnetic Resonance Managers (UKMRM) group, was previously secretary of the SMASH (Small Molecules Are Still Hot) International NMR conference, remaining on its organising committee, and is also on the Advisory Board for Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry

Tim Claridge is head of NMR operations at Recursion (an AI-driven drug-discovery company), and also Visiting Professor of NMR in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. He has contributed to over 260 research publications and written several textbooks including High-Resolution NMR Techniques in Organic Chemistry (Elsevier) and A Practical Guide to Structure Elucidation in Organic Chemistry (with J. McCullagh and A. Boa; published 2025).

Tim’s first degree was in Chemistry and Analytical Science at Loughborough University, during which he undertook an industrial year in the spectroscopy laboratory at (what was then) Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now part of GlaxoSmithKline). This was followed by a DPhil in Oxford, under the supervision of the late Andy Derome, studying protein function by NMR spectroscopy, during which he was also a member of Wolfson College.
