Prof. Dr. Ruth M. Gschwind is a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Regensburg. She studied Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich, where she also obtained her Ph.D. degree, both summa cum laude. In 2002, she completed her habilitation in Organic Chemistry at Philipps University Marburg, where she headed the NMR department. After holding a professorship at the University of Bonn, she joined the University of Regensburg in 2005.
Her research focuses on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for the structural elucidation of catalyst complexes, detection of reaction intermediates and hydrogen bonds, and mechanistic studies in organic, organometallic, inorganic, and bioorganic systems. Her group applies advanced NMR techniques to gain insight into organocatalysis and photocatalysis.
Prof. Gschwind has received numerous distinctions, including the Thieme Chemistry Journal Award (2008) and an ERC Consolidator Grant (2013) for her project IonPairs@Catalysis. She currently serves as Chair of the Regensburg NMR Center, and since 2011, she is member of the DECHEMA Technical Committee on Kinetics and Reaction Mechanisms. Since 2017, she also contributes to the GDCh selection committee for the August-Wilhelm-von Hofmann Medal
