Borja Mateos

Dr. Borja Mateos is an Assistant Professor at the University of Barcelona with an extensive background in biochemistry, integrative structural biology, and biophysics. He earned his BSc and MSc from the University of Barcelona with highest honors before completing a PhD at the University of Vienna (Max Perutz Labs – Vienna Biocenter). His doctoral thesis was recognized with both the Vienna Biocenter’s Best PhD Prize and the RSEQ-GERMN PhD Award. Following postdoctoral tenures at CIC bioGUNE and IRB Barcelona, he has established a specialized profile at the intersection of chemical biology and magnetic resonance.

His work leverages advanced NMR spectroscopy as a core methodological platform to characterize dynamic molecular recognition events. By developing a molecular-level understanding of the interactions that trigger biological processes, Dr. Mateos addresses key challenges in drug discovery. His current focus emphasizes the non-covalent interactions and conformational equilibria of intrinsically disordered proteins, providing mechanistic insights essential for the rational design of more efficient biotherapeutics.
